History of Tarangire National Park

A long time ago, the land of Tarangire was home to local communities, especially the Maasai people. They moved with their cattle across the land, looking for fresh grass and water. The Tarangire River was very important because it gave water to people, their animals, and wild animals too. As time passed, people noticed that many wild animals liked to stay around the river, especially in the dry season. Elephants, zebras, lions, and many other animals would gather there. It became a place full of life and beauty.

To protect this special place and the animals living there, the government of Tanzania made it a national park in 1970. This helped to keep the animals safe from hunting and the land safe from too much farming. Accessing Tarangire National Park

🛩️ By Air

• The best way to get to Tarangire is by plane.

• You can fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), which is about 46 km from Arusha.

• Another option is to land at Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam. From there, you can catch a domestic flight to Arusha Airport (ARK) or back to Kilimanjaro.

🚗 By Road

• If you're traveling by car, you will first need to go to Arusha city, which is the main starting point for safaris in northern Tanzania. From Arusha, you will drive on good roads for about 2 to 3 hours to reach the park.
• The journey is scenic, with views of the countryside, villages, and even small farms along the way. You can stop to take photos or have a break during the drive. Once you reach the main gate of Tarangire, you will pay the entrance fee, and then you're ready to begin your safari adventure inside the park.
